Porch renovation - Week 3 (Jun 18-22)

This week they started work on the porch column footings. The porch deck is pretty much complete, but that was the "easy" part (relatively). The real work is in the columns and the porch roof.

Here's a shot from the east showing the column bases being built earlier in the week.
Same view from the front
And the west. You can see the stairs here. The risers are permanent, but the treads are temporary - just some 2x10's to walk on.
Later in the week, again from the east. The column detail is much further along. The skirting around the bottom of the porch is nearly complete and the faux roof bracket is installed. This looks like one of the horizontal members of the other "triangular" roof brackets and both holds up the eaves and matches the edge detail on the rest of the roof line. They've also done a lot of work on the roof supports, including completely replacing the rotted wood (with a ton of new, good wood).

Same from the front. Note - the support 2x8's that were holding up the roof before are gone. Instead, 4x4's have been installed onto the column footings. The actual columns will be built around these 4x4, but the 4x4 are offering an awfully strong support for the roof (stronger than the old porch, many times over).
