Mostly demolition this week. We got the dumpster and the crew showed up and started filling it up (you can see below). Mark and I put a 2" conduit in from the basement to the attic for running network/phone/cable wiring and also put in three new 20amp circuts for the second floor. After tearing up the attic, we have come to the conclusion we're going to have to pretty much rewire the 2nd floor. That will be next week (18th & 19th). This weekend got the power from the basement to the attic and got the loose fill insulation up and out so the 80 year old knob/tube wiring was exposed.
Most of what looks like framing in the pictures below is in fact temporary supports. They are going to have to cut through a major support beam to run a heating duct and they need to brace the second floor. Once that is complete, most this framing will come out (though some will go back). The guys working on the job have been great and super clean.
Finally, they replaced the tarp over the old basement entrance with an actual structure designed to last at least a little longer than the rickety support we had put in there. It still needs some roofing materials on it, but already looks better than what we had (at a minimum, because it's not electric blue).
We also finally broke down and decided to use Motawi tile for the front entryway tiling. We decided to use tiles from the salvage room at Motawi (much cheaper, but you have to be flexible with your plans) and Mark made some great choices.
