Siding Removal Project, July 4th 1999

July 4th saw the start of the front part of the house. It was supposed to be a record hot day and the forecast proved accurate - was over 90 when we started and got hotter as time went on (and on a roof, yeashh!).

We decided to just do the front of the house because we were seriously tuckered out from the day before. Still, this wasn't going to be easy because of the fun of trying to get to the siding at the top of the roof (the pitch of the roof is VERY steep!).

Here is how things looked like before we started (you can click on an image to see a larger version):

After we stripped the siding off the front part of the dormer

Next was the east side of the house. Notice that much of the soffit coverings are still in place - it's really quite tough to work up there and easy to loose your footing (and the roof itself is so hot at this point that touching it causes an actual skin burn!)

Last was the west side of the dormer and the siding under the porch. This photo shows the west side of the dormer (the west side of the house itself will be done in the next few days). The porch looks like hell as the the there has been a fair amount of damage by ants and the latticework under the porch had been removed when the aluminum siding was installed and as a result, the underside of the porch looks bad.
