Construction Week 15 (Feb 19-23)

For the most part, the last few weeks have been working on interior trim. So far, the large oak panels have been installed on the walls, the floor has been fixed everywhere we needed it and the trim out on the screen wall (the most complex piece) is underway. The front door is about ready and will likely be installed in the next week or so.

This is a view from the west side of the screen wall. It gives a good idea of what is going on. Above is a soffit that has been trimmed out and below is the screen wall itself. The screen wall is complete except for a cap piece that will go on top. One of the two columns on the end is visible. The columns are prooving to be troublesome - this is the second set of columns installed. The guys are really working to make it look great, but the complexity, nuber of cuts and the complete lack of anything close to square are slowing things up.
This is another view, mostly of the south side of the wall. While it's a little tough to tell, there are vertical battens running top to bottom every 18 inches or two. When this is finally stained (or I learn how to better take pictures), these will be a lot clearer. Th blue tape and cardboar cover up some finished edges from being beaten up as construction continues.
Another view, looking from a north perspective.
While there were a lot of places that had floor repairs, this is the most dramatic. Previously, there was a rectangle cut at the front of this picture where a wall used to exist. The floor contued up to the far wall. Now that there is a door to the basement there, the floor has also been extended into the landing for the basement. This has completed a long standing problem with basement access, looks great and ties the basement into our house (it is part of our living space). Toward the end of the project, we'll be refinishing the floor.
