Construction Week 24 (Apr 1-Apr 28)

Things are getting close. The interior construction is, for all intents, done. The finishers are in the last few weeks sanding and prepping to stain. Stain should go on this coming week. When they finish, the floor refinishers will be in to refinish all the first floor hardwood floors. After that, they come back to tile the entryway and fireplce, put the shoe moulding done and we are done (inside).

On the exterior, Mark has been replacing clapboards as time permits. After we are done the interior of the house, we are going to have to paint the exterior and this is necessary prep work (along with probably 50 gallons of caulk later). They've started putting the new roof brackets up. We originally were going to have 4 per side. We're now putting 5 per side on the main eve line and an extra two on the shed dormer. They look great (will look better when painted, but). They have 3 more brackets to install and then have to take down all the old nailers under the eves that had been installed for the old aluminum siding.

We've just signed on to doing the porch project. Starting sometime next week, the front porch is going to be demoed and the rebuild will start. When that is near completion, the final part of the front facade work will be completed.

This shows the north west side of the living room. You can see the main entry, the windows, the coat closet (no hardware on it yet) and at the far left, the frame where the touch screen goes (we took it out as they will be staining soon). You can see on the floor where the tile will go (currently, just a hole).
This is the north east side of the living room. You can see the same windows as before and the fireplace and northernmost book case as well as some of the east wall windows. The fireplace is all done but for the tile. The blue stuff on the windows is masking tape for the upcoming staining.
This is a view of the east wall of the living room. You can see the fireplace, the bookshelves and the window arrangement.
This is another shot of the north west area, with more of the west wall showing including the opening to the study.
This is the north side of the screen wall. You can see the columns on the left and right side of the wall and the soffit overhead.
And the sourth side of the screen wall (as seen from the dining room)
This is a view of the east side of the house. If you look at the eve line, you can see the new brackets. There is one right at the peak, two about 1/2 down the roof and 2 more further down. If you look at some, you can see some of the profile of them - sort of an upside down L with a diagnoal brace.
This is the front of the house, showing the porch. Not much there, but this is probably the last time it'll look like this.
This is an east view of the porch
And a view from the west.

I recently had to get a new camera and as a result, I actual have some short movies of the house (10-15 second clips). They aren't the best quality and they do tend to be a bit jumpy, but I'm hoping moving around in a space will help to give you a better feel for it.

Click here for one of me moving around the outside of the front porch. To view it, you do need to have QuickTime installed. If you don't have it, you can click here to download it and install it. You don't have to fill out anything - just press the Download button. If it offers you a "Pro" version, don't take it (the normal version is Free, the Pro version, which you do not need to simply watch, costs).
